5.Key lime pie

A common dish on menus in South Florida is key lime pie.

When life gives you limes, turn them into key lime pie instead of limeade. The official state pie of Florida, this spunky tart has gained recognition all over the world. It all began in the Florida Keys, which is where the little limes that gave the pie its name originated.

The original Key lime pie is credited to Aunt Sally, who cooked for ship salvager William Curry, Florida's first self-made millionaire, in the late 1800s. However, you should also give credit to Florida sponge fishermen for perhaps coming up with the recipe for key lime juice, sweetened condensed milk, and egg yolks that could be "cooked" (by a chemical reaction that thickens the mixture) at sea.

We adore French fries, but the Tater Tot is an American take on the potato theme that is popular in school cafeterias nationwide and at Sonic drive-ins.

These commercial hash brown cylinders are actually exclusive to the Ore-Ida corporation, as you can see by the registered trademark that is frequently on them. Had you been one of the Grigg brothers who established Ore-Ida, you would have also wished to find a use for the residual pieces of leftover chopped potatoes. In 1956, they formed the mush into tiny tots, added some flour and spice, and then sold them. After a little over 50 years, the United States consumes over 32 million kilograms of these potatoes every year.

Oddly enough, sourdough was consumed in ancient Egypt and dates back to the time of the pyramids. However, San Francisco produces the sourest variant and is the undisputed favorite in America.

Since the era of the Gold Rush, sourdough bread has been a mainstay of NoCal cuisine, just like Napa Valley wine. In the past, settlers and miners who survived on sourdough were known as "sourdoughs" and carried pouches around their necks or belts with sourdough starter, which was more dependable than other leavening.
Thankfully, that isn't how the Boudin Bakery, which has been producing bite-sized bread in the City by the Bay since 1849, does it.

2. Cobb salad

Cobb salad, which was first created with leftovers, has become a popular appetizer in America.

The chef's salad was first created in the East, but American chefs using lettuce in the West weren't going to be surpassed.

Owner of The Brown Derby Bob Cobb assembled a salad in 1937 while rummaging through the refrigerator for ingredients for a meal for Sid Grauman of Grauman's Theater. The ingredients included a head of lettuce, an avocado, some romaine, watercress, tomatoes, some cold chicken breast, a hard-boiled egg, chives, cheese, and some classic French dressing.

Legend about the Brown Derby states, "He started chopping." added some crispy bacon that I took from a working chef. The salad made its way onto the menu and into Hollywood itself.

1. Thanksgiving dinner

There were no elaborate centerpieces or protracted family arguments on that first Thanksgiving in 1621 Plymouth, when the Pilgrims chose to celebrate with the Wampanoag tribe instead of fasting.
We forgo the deer they most likely consumed today, packing three days' worth of food into one opulent feast.

Despite any indigestion, nothing compares to the classic American Thanksgiving meal consisting of roasted or deep-fried turkey, tofurkey, or the strangely popular Louisiana dish turducken), along with dressing (cornbread, old loaf bread, onion and celery, sausage, fruit, chestnuts, oysters – whatever your mom made, the sage was the key), mashed and sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, and that quirky green bean casserole topped with French-fried onion rings.

A Swanson salesman came up with the idea of the turkey TV dinner in 1953 in an attempt to use up 260 tons of frozen birds that he had underestimated. To most children, it is just as iconic and tasty. Not joking: He said that neatly wrapped airline food was the source of his idea. We certainly adore those leftovers.
